Starting this autumn, businesses must use the new Gov.uk One Login to access Companies House accounts, replacing the existing Government Gateway system.
Companies House has confirmed that the transition will occur in two phases, with completion expected by the end of the year. The Gov.uk One Login provides a simpler, more secure way to access Government digital services. It will require just one account, username, and password for all Government services.
Phase one will introduce a private beta pilot, inviting a select group of users from the ‘Find and update company information service’ to test the new system. This will be followed by a public beta trial, allowing all users of the same service to choose Gov.uk One Login.
Once the public beta is complete, Gov.uk One Login will become mandatory for anyone accessing the ‘Find and update company information service’.
The current WebFiling service will move to Gov.uk One Login at a later stage. Companies House has promised to give users ample notice before this change.
The new system, already used by a select group of HMRC customers since March, features two-factor authentication to enhance security. The system will gradually replace Government Gateway accounts across all Government services over the next three years, with full implementation expected by mid-2027.
